The Calm recently stormed their way into Langley Mill with their famous monthly gig at The Durham Ox. Playing as decided with a new "look". Mark, Paul, Chris and Andy took it upon themselves to "spice" up the atmosphere in the pub with "the calm charm" the crowd immediatly responded by singing along and having a good old fashioned "mosh".

After an immense performance I personally was dissapointed not to hear The Calm's best song - NOW YOUR GONE - "The song with a feel............" but after many shouts of "more" The Calm took up the encore with great enthusium.

After a great night out with my friends the only thing anyone who have seen The Calm live could wish for is one hell of an origional and well written song - now your gone.

It will appear on The Calm's launch of their new album, "Virgin Skin", comming early next year!

Thanks boys for an awsome night out.

The Calm – Old Vic, Tuesday 25th November 1997. The legendary CALM was yet again in action, last night playing at The Old Vic (nice pub - shame about the Xmas decor). First band up was quite good - singer had an excellent voice, pity he was such an arrogant ponce (anonymous quote from the audience). Second band played lots of favourite cover versions, and managed to murder several. Always saving the best till last, the CALM were the third band on stage. Mark was delicious in a Marshall T-shirt, Paul was cool with his swept back pony tail (and was that a whisper of a gitty goatee beard ?), Andy looked sexy as usual (I think its the muscles and sleeveless T-shirt), and the drummer Chris was wicked & wild. The CALM swept into action with a rendition of Metallica’s SAD BUT TRUE. The dweeb on the mixing desk didn’t quite get the sound mix right, but what do you expect from a Wayne’s World reject. Lots of heavy numbers came next, followed by a wonderful version of BASKET CASE ( well appreciated by the blonde girlies in the corner doing the Muppet impressions). As usual the real stars of the show were BLEEDING ROSE, NOW YOU’RE GONE (a classic in our time), and the incredible SANDMAN. And finally.... Tips from the faithful: Some of the songs chosen were a bit too heavy for the mixed audience. When faced with a shortened set, it may be best to stick to the more melodic tunes, and heavy classics such as SANDMAN. However the quick mix of ‘heavies’ near the end were pretty good. UNFORGIVEN and LIVE AND LET DIE were sorely missed by the crowd. Watch this space for more rave reviews, coming to a web page near you soon.

Take a trip around the city of Nottingham and if you stumble across some of the few pubs that still have live rock acts, you may bump into "The Calm". The Calm are a heavy rock band in the traditional sense of the label. Plagued by the laque of suitable venues in their locality they are currently expanding their outlook on the circuit with their own home grown power-rock-groove material and EXCELLENT cover sections. If you are a Metallica fan get yourself down to a gig and see for yourself.

The lads are not looking to revolutionize the sound of metal, but take a very laid-back approach to the developement of their own new material preferring to go with what they feel comfortable with and their audiences respond to rather than trying to pursue a path down the more stereotyped routes of rock music.

With the recording of a demo CD high on the agenda -comming soon early next year - and a more dynamic approach to marketing themselves. The Calm are looking to make an impact.

The NEC and Sheffield arena may be out of their reach for the moment but for promoters looking to fill the more modest venues this band have a lot of talent and certainly motivate a crowd. For rock musioc fans, keep your eye on the "what’s on where?" columns in your local papers, or risk missing the opportunity to hear a real "Bosting" local band before the record companies get hold of them.

Rock/Metal fans you have been warned.
